Trailing Points critically examines the gentrification of a row of shops on Brick
Lane, reflecting on the cultural and social transformation of this multi-ethnic
neighbourhood. At its core is a site-specific participatory art intervention,
where residents and users of 16–28 Brick Lane were invited to collectively
paint a 13-metre-long fabric featuring sketched elevations of the streetscape,
celebrating the architectural heritage of its independent shops.
The project also includes a film capturing
the everyday life of the street and its businesses, and a publication drawing
on archival materials and interviews to explore themes of migration,
gentrification, and urban renewal—while reflecting on the role of participatory
art in the contemporary urban context.
